A Career in Voice Acting
Career in Voice Acting:
Many people choose to get involved with voice acting because of the huge amount of flexibility and the ability to work from home. It also gives you a creative outlet where you can create characters and work with writers that you admire. However, it is not an easy career to pursue and it requires a lot of hard work, time, training, and a bit of luck!
To start you will want to take a class with a reputable coach in your area. They can teach you the basics, help you build a starter demo reel and give you an insider’s perspective on working in the business (things like getting an agent, booking jobs, on-set etiquette, etc). You will need to practice every day. Daily reading of text out loud, or at the very least recording yourself, and listening back and critiquing your performance is crucial for your success. Listening to the work of other voice actors, commercials, audiobooks etc is another essential tool for finding your style and improving.
You will need a good microphone, and a recording software program such as Audacity or Reaper (free). It’s important to have a home studio to be able to record auditions, and test out different equipment options. You’ll also need a professional actor headshot as you’re likely to be self-employed and have to market yourself. career in Voice Acting
