Finding the Right IVF Clinic
Find a clinic with compassionate staff, clear pricing and seamless administrative processes. A great fertility clinic offers more than just effective treatment; it also provides exceptional emotional support throughout the IVF process.
During IVF, you take medicine to spur the growth of sacs in your ovaries that each contain an egg. Then, a doctor uses ultrasound images to guide a long needle through your vagina into the sacs (also called follicles) to collect the eggs. Then, a doctor mixes your eggs with sperm in a lab. If fertilization happens, people who work in the lab monitor the embryos and check for chromosomal abnormalities.
If 1 or more of the embryos are healthy, the doctor puts them into your uterus (this is called embryo transfer). After the procedure, you will need to take progesterone pills for about a week. You may get a period during this time, and you can call your care team if you have unusual bleeding.
Before beginning IVF, check with your insurance provider and ask what coverage is available. You can also find out about financing options. For example, NYU Langone has a team of billing professionals who are ready to help you maximize your insurance coverage and assist with other financial resources that can make it easier to afford IVF. They can help you understand your specific costs, including medication, ongoing blood work and storage for frozen embryos. They can also provide you with itemized receipts to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
