Is YouTube Premium Worth $10 Per Month?
There are a lot of subscription services out there, from popular kids like Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ to less-heralded options like Spotify, Apple Music and TIDAL. But one that doesn’t get a lot of attention is YouTube Premium, the video platform’s paid offering that costs $10 per month. So, is it worth it?
A YouTube Premium subscription gets you ad-free viewing of all videos on the site, including YouTube Originals series and unreleased movies. It also gives you access to YouTube Music Premium, a separate streaming service that has ad-free listening and offline play for mobile devices.
Ad-free viewing is a big benefit, especially for anyone who’s fed up with having to fast-forward or skip through ads on regular YouTube videos. Plus, it applies to any device you’re using the YouTube app on, not just your phone or tablet. A YouTube Premium membership also includes background play and the ability to save videos for offline viewing.
Another benefit is support for content creators. Since the majority of creators on YouTube monetize their videos through ads, when you have a YouTube Premium account, you’re helping them keep that money. YouTube will also share some of your subscription cost with those creators.
If you want to avoid watching ads and would use the YouTube Music Premium service often, then it’s probably a good option for you. But, if you’re happy with the ads on YouTube and wouldn’t use Music Premium, it might not be worth it for you. NerdWallet’s 50/30/20 budget model recommends putting 50% of your income toward needs, 30% into savings and 20% into discretionary spending, so you might not have enough room in your budget for the extra expense of YouTube Premium. يوتيوب بريميوم
