Selecting a Portable Fire Fighting Pump
A fire fighting pump is a special type of water pump that can be used to help put out a fire or other emergencies. These pumps are very different from a garden hose because they can produce a lot more pressure and are designed to handle a lot of water at one time.
There are a few things to consider when selecting the right fire fighting pump for your needs. First, you will want to choose the right sized hose. A common hose size for fire fighting pumps is 3/4″. These hoses are typically easy to operate and can pump a decent amount of water at a reasonable rate.
Another thing to consider is the maximum head of the fire pump. This is the distance that the pump can push water up a slope or into the air. Ideally, you will want to select a pump with a maximum head of at least 30 meters. This will ensure that your pump can reach a high enough elevation to fight the fire.
You will also want to consider the size of the discharge hose that comes with the fire fighting pump. This hose will be the one that you use to shoot water at the fire. Generally, you will want to select a hose that is 1″ in diameter, as this is the size that most fire departments use for their pumps.
If you are using a fire fighting pump for anything other than putting out a fire, you will want to make sure that the hose that you choose is compatible with the discharge port on your fire fighting pump. The best hoses will have a thread that matches the fire pump’s discharge port.
In order to properly maintain a fire fighting pump, it is important to check the pump’s performance regularly. One way to do this is by performing a sound check. If the pump is making any unusual noises, it should be inspected immediately. It is also a good idea to check the discharge pressure regularly. If the discharge pressure starts to drop, it may be a sign that there is a leak somewhere in the system.
